Quarter Three Week of February1st

Hello Parents!
We have a beautiful addition to our classroom- a painting. Madonna of the Lilies by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Help us buy this gorgeous piece! Each family should send in a minimum of $10 in order to fully fund the piece.
Please help your scholars pack all of their homework each day. As the year progresses many students have become lax in bringing their homework in consistently.
Here is an overview of our week.

Language Arts

Spalding: We will continue working through our words. Remember that your student should be studying the phonograms consistently. Staying sharp with the phonograms is key to learning how to spell and decode.  If your student could use support in Spalding, please send them in Thursday mornings for tutoring(this is a change!). Tutoring will be held in my classroom from 7:10-7:45.

Literature: We are reading Pinocchio. On Friday, the class had a seminar style discussion on the question "Is Pinocchio harmed when he kills the cricket. After some trial and error with how to have a conversation without raising their hands the class did very well. Their answers blew Mrs. Houlihan and myself away. Very thoughtful and well constructed answers on both sides.

Singapore: We have been working on long division with and without remainders. Please send your scholar into math tutoring on Wednesday mornings from 7:10-74:45 for extra support.

History: This unit of history focuses on the Earliest Americans. We will be studying Native Tribes from all around North America. Last week we learned some interesting facts about Inuits. This week we will continue to learn about tribes from Arizona and other areas of our country.

Science: In science we are studying light and optics. We have learned about reflection and will continue to study light and color.

As always please email me with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,
Miss Elfelt
